The Shiv Purana is a sacred text in Hinduism that primarily focuses on the deity Shiva. It contains various stories, hymns, and teachings associated with Lord Shiva and his manifestations. These beads hold great significance in the worship of Lord Shiva and are directly associated with him. Also, having them is relatively easy as you can easily buy Rudraksha online and leverage such sacred beads.
In the Shiv Maha Puranam, numerous stories highlight the power and benefits of original Rudraksha. One such story tells of a demon named Tripurasura who had become invincible due to his austerities. The gods, unable to defeat him, sought the assistance of Lord Shiva. In response to their plea, Lord Shiva meditated for thousands of years. When he opened his eyes, tears fell from them and transformed into Rudraksha trees. The gods collected these beads and wore them as protection while battling the demon, ultimately emerging victorious.
The Rudraksha’s association with Lord Shiva and the legends surrounding their origin has made them an integral part of Shiva worship and devotion. Shiv Maha Puranam offers valuable insights into the beliefs, rituals, and teachings associated with Lord Shiva. The spiritual and mystical properties attributed to Rudraksha beads are primarily rooted in faith and belief, and their usage has evolved over time through cultural and religious practices.
Further, the following shloka explained in Vidyeshawara Samhita of the Shiva Maha Puranam clearly states that Lord Shiva asks everyone around the world and beyond to wear and worship Rudraksha all the time, which means 24*7. There are so many learned and experienced astrologers and people who contain spiritual knowledge and believe this is to be the most important shloka associated with the wearing of Rudraksha that is available in all of the spiritual or sacred Hindu texts combined –
“Lord Shiva orders everybody to wear Rudraksha, regardless of their caste, creed, religion, age, or stage of life. One must wear a rudraksha at all times – with every breath, just as the highest Yogis (known as Yatis) mentally chant Om with every breath they take while sleeping, waking, sitting, moving, eating, drinking, shitting, and peeing. Once a rudraksha is worn, there is no need to take it off at all, neither during the sexual act nor during the menstrual cycle for women.”
: ShivaMahaPuranam, Vidyeshwara Samhita, Chapter – 25, Verse – 47.
। Om is verily the Eternal Spirit।।
The Origin Of Rudraksha As Per The Shiva Mahapurana
According to the Shiva Mahapurana, Rudraksha trees originated in India and Sri Lanka and were formerly exclusively found in great abundance in these two countries. But after many years, Bholenath became enraged due to the misdeeds and deceit of the local Hindu population, and the Rudraksha trees started to disappear progressively. This eventually caused the Hindu population to be decimated and brought into slavery by the Mohammadans and Christians. But a few hundred years ago, before the last Rudraksha trees on Indian soil perished, a saint planted some Rudraksha tree saplings in Nepal. This event occurred only 350 years ago, and the documentation of it can be found in an old manuscript housed in a Nepali library.
Original Rudraksha – Symbol of Devotion and Protection
Devotees of Lord Shiva wear Rudraksha beads as a sacred accessory, considering them to be a symbol of their devotion and connection to the divine. These beads are believed to have various benefits, both physical and spiritual. They enhance concentration, calm the mind, and promote spiritual growth. It is also believed that Rudraksha beads have the power to protect the wearer from negative energies and bring about a sense of peace and well-being.
The significance of Rudraksha beads is not limited to the Shiv Purana alone. They are mentioned in various other ancient texts and revered by different sects and schools of Hinduism. The Rudraksha Japamala, a string of 108 Rudraksha beads, is often used for chanting mantras and prayers dedicated to Lord Shiva.
